Eclipse was formed in the summer of 1996 as a response to increased instances of bioterrorism throughout the world. Originally founded by Lieutenant Colonel Jason Reynolds, a US Army veteran with experience in bioweapons containment, it's initial mission was to prevent biological, chemical and other hazardous threats to the security of the world via any means necessary. In 2010, a major power struggle developed between LTC Reynolds and his Chief of Operations, Major Isabella Mercer, over the organization's "future". Eclipse as a business was not a profitable venture, as it's focus was geared almost completely to bioweapons support for humanitarian operations across the globe. Mercer, supported by a majority of Eclipse's senior leadership, brutally gunned down LTC Reynold as he was leaving his home in Vienna. The remaining members of Eclipse command that supported Reynolds quickly met with similar fates. As of the present day, Eclipse has solidified its reputation as a formidable and ruthless private military entity. Since their "rebirth", Eclipse has expanded its global reach, establishing bases and operational centers in strategic locations around the world. These centers are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for research, development, and containment operations. After Mercer's takeover of Eclipse, a noticeable shift in the organization's ethos became apparent, with ethical considerations quickly taking a back seat to ruthless efficiency. Eclipse's operations, once guided by a sense of duty to protect, now prioritized results at any cost. This newfound approach raised concerns among some operatives, as they witnessed a departure from the moral compass that once anchored their actions. Mercer's leadership style emphasized the absolute authority she wielded, leaving little room for dissent or ethical deliberation. The organization's actions, once governed by a sense of duty and honor, became increasingly driven by a singular focus on power and control. The shift in Eclipse's approach left a profound impact on its operatives and raised questions about the true nature of their mission. Under her leadership, Eclipse embarked on a disturbing path, employing bioweapons in large-scale experiments related to viral outbreaks. These clandestine operations were typically conducted in isolated, controlled environments, away from the prying eyes of international authorities. Eclipse operatives, armed with advanced knowledge of virology and biochemistry, meticulously designed and administered the bioweapons, subjecting unwitting individuals to harrowing conditions. The experiments authorized by Mercer aimed to assess the virulence, transmission patterns, and potential mutations of various viral/bacterial strains. Subjects, often drawn from marginalized or vulnerable populations, were subjected to the horrors of artificially induced outbreaks. The callousness with which Eclipse conducts these experiments continues to demonstrate a complete disregard for human life, viewing individuals merely as expendable test subjects. The data gathered from these clandestine, inhumane experiments provides Eclipse with a twisted form of scientific validation, enabling them to promote their own expertise by giving "real-world examples" of their work. The organization's willingness to cross such ethical boundaries revealed a chilling willingness to sacrifice lives in the pursuit of their mission objectives. The true extent of these experiments remain unknown to the wider world, leaving the victims voiceless and the perpetrators emboldened in their pursuit of Eclipse's agenda. Commanding Officer - Lieutenant Colonel Isabella Mercer Lieutenant Colonel Isabella Mercer, b. June 12, 1978, brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to her role as the Commanding Officer of Eclipse. Born into a family with a rich military heritage spanning several generations, Mercer's upbringing instilled in her a deep respect for duty, honor, and service. She is a graduate of the West Point Military Academy, where her exceptional leadership skills and strategic thinking quickly set her apart from her peers. Mercer excelled in both academic studies and physical training, earning both her commission and degrees in Virology and Biochemistry. After completing her time at West Point, Mercer distinguished herself through years of exemplary service, highlighted by a series of successful deployments and commendations. While serving, she pursued further education, earning a masters degree in Virology through a distance learning program at Harvard University. Using her unique blend of scientific knowledge and military training, she earned a solid reputation within the field of biological warfare as one of the most prominent subject matter experts. Armed with a wealth of military experience and a deep understanding of biological warfare, Mercer joined the ranks of Eclipse at the age of 34, being recruited personally by LTC Reynolds. Over the course of a decade, Mercer became an integral part of the organization, rising through the ranks due to her exceptional leadership skills and strategic thinking. Her final position, prior to her takeover of Eclipse, was Chief of Operations. In 2010, Mercer seized control of Eclipse through a combination of strategic maneuvering and forceful action. Recognizing the need for a more authoritarian style of leadership, as well as understanding how to increase Eclipse's global reach, she took it upon herself to elevate her position within the organization by eliminating it's founder, LTC Jason Reynolds. After assuming control, she promoted herself to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and further purged Eclipse's upper leadership, appointing replacements that were loyal to her.
